Erasmus+ Policy Statement

Erasmus Policy Statement (overall strategy) 

The Institutions’ strategy for modernization and internationalization is based on the following pillars:

1. Training of staff and Students

2. Investing resources in research and development

3. Upgrading technology and equipment to support staff in research projects and mobility actions

4. Creating and participating in international professional networks

5. Offering career advancement to staff for participation in national and international programmes

6. Recognizing the students’ course credits on mobility programmes 

The administration aims to expand its activities internationally by fulfilling the above stated objectives. It is important for the institution to engage in research and development on the national and international stage. Therefore, it is willing to invest resources in training staff and students and in purchasing technology in order to be actively involved in international research projects. 

The courses at the institution are taught in English. Most of the faculty members are graduates of English speaking universities from the UK and USA. The administration is interested in collaborating with institutions from English speaking countries such as England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Canada, and USA as communication at all levels would be much easier.

Business, Computing, Hospitality & Tourism, Legal Studies and Office Studies are the academic fields at the institution. The staff is interested in engaging in training and research with partner institutions internationally. They want to exchange their knowledge and experience with faculty from international organizations. International project collaborations are beneficial and necessary for the development of the home institution, the programmes of study and the students. It is understood by the administration that Erasmus Plus and European research programmes are ideal opportunities to engage in research and development and also a way of attracting faculty of greater academic potential. 

Third year students at the institution are prospective candidates for the Erasmus plus mobility projects. The administration has a committee responsible for the selection of staff and students for the mobility projects.  The committee follows a selection procedure approved by the institution where it has designed criteria such as academic excellence, contribution to social causes and discipline among others. Selected students and staff are given full support in preparing for participation in Erasmus Plus Mobility (language, course selection, travel visa, plans etc). 

Strategy for the organization and implementation of international

(EU and non-EU) cooperation projects

The institution’s strategic objective is to organize and implement international cooperation projects within the framework of Erasmus Plus Programme (Key action 1, key action 2, key action 3, Jean Monet and Sports). The institution aims to form academic and business networks in order to participate in research and development. The Erasmus Plus Programme would greatly support the institution’s effort to design projects with international partners. This strategic approach creates an opportunity for staff and students to become part of international project teams. The institution anticipates earning recognition from its contribution to academic excellence and research development. 

One of the Erasmus Plus Programmes is the Key Action 2: Strategic Partnerships. Key Action 2 is a prospective action that the institution could participate in developing an innovation project for education with higher education institutions and enterprises. The engagement of staff with other members of organizations in the innovation process could create invaluable research outcomes.

The institution supports and plans the cooperation with international partners for the Erasmus Plus Programmes. The internationalization process is a very important step to improving the quality of programmes, and of research and contributing to society in a more substantial way. 

Impact of the modernization of CTL Eurocollege as a result of its participation in the Erasmus+ Programme

The institution expects a positive impact on the process of modernization by participating in the Erasmus Plus Programme. It is an opportunity for the institution, staff and students to meet and connect with other students and professionals in other countries. The collaboration among faculty could produce quality research projects of benefit to different groups of people or the society as a whole. The main academic fields of the institution are: business, information technology and hospitality & tourism. Staff and students in these academic fields could develop promising research projects. The exchange of knowledge and experience among researchers is an important benefit for all parties. The institution intends to invest resources to strengthen cooperation with other higher education institutions. 

The 5 priorities of the Modernization Agenda 2 are listed below:

  1. Increasing attainment levels to provide the graduates and researchers Europe needs
  2. Improving the quality and relevance of higher education
  3. Strengthening quality through mobility and cross-border cooperation
  4. Linking higher education, research and business for excellence and regional development
  5. Improving governance and funding 

The institution shares all the policy objectives but presently intends to pursue the following more actively: 

2. Improving the quality and relevance of higher education

Part of the institution’s strategy is to improve the quality of the programs and relevance of higher education. The institution plans to invest resources in upgrading the technology in research labs, offices and classrooms. The academic committee continuously improves the quality of the programs offered to students. Also, it plans to allocate resources to the training of staff. 

3. Strengthening quality through mobility and cross-border cooperation

The Erasmus Plus Programme is an opportunity for the institution to strengthen quality and cooperation with other institutions. The agreement among HEI’s could create a promising research and economic environment for all the participants. It could be a common ground for research and development of HEI’s and enterprises. The mobility of staff and students would eventually improve the institution’s quality and the academic level of programs. The outcomes of the participation might benefit academic institutions, professional associations and society. 

4. Linking higher education, research and business for excellence and regional development

An extremely important strategic objective of the institution is to create academic and business networks for collaboration in research and development. Sharing of resources, communicating with industry experts and developing projects with social partners could develop a dynamic environment and provide a different perspective in project development. The exchange of knowledge and expertise positively contributes to the design and quality of courses in an academic institution. Eventually, the input from industry and other partners would be beneficial to students. The cooperation of the parties is expected to have an impact on the research methods, industry and academic relationship, social contribution and the quality of the academic programmes. 

Mechanism to recognize mobility achievements

The Institution recognizes and transfers the courses taken by students at Erasmus Plus Mobility. The administration and the Academic Dean’s office expect our HEI partner to provide the transcript of records or a Diploma Supplement (DS). The Academic Dean’s office reviews the transcripts and counts the ECTS earned towards a student’s degree programme. The courses undertaken by the student should fulfill the objectives of the learning agreement of the sending and receiving HEI’s. 

The Institution follows an official procedure for the evaluation, preparation and submission of a student’s transcripts or diploma supplement. The administration prepares and provides the student with a semester record sheet. The administration calculates a student’s final grade for a course based on test grades, class attendance, assignments or project for the course and  participation in class discussions. A grade ‘A’ is worth 4 points, a grade B 3 points, a grade of C 2 points and a grade of D 1 point. 

Regarding the traineeships, the Institution follows a different approach when evaluating and recognizing credits earned during work placement. The Institution, the work provider and the student sign a learning agreement with details about the hours of practice per week, the objectives of the traineeship, outcomes of the traineeship and a written task produced by the student. The student is asked to prepare a written document about the learning experience, objectives and outcomes of the traineeship. The Institution will also require the evaluation of the immediate supervisor of the student. The work provider issues a training certificate to verify the student’s participation in the traineeship. The final traineeship grade is based on the student’s written work, the supervisor’s evaluation and a timesheet from the enterprise.
